Injury Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation Therapy is provided by a Graduate Sports Rehabilitator (GSR), a title given only to those who have completed a relevant degree programme and are fully certified members of the
British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT).
Rehabilitation can be seen as a specialist branch of physiotherapy, focusing on the treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissue injury. Physical assessment is a key skill of a rehabber, the findings from the assessment will determine the plan of action. Treatment may involve soft tissue manipulation such as massage, METS (muscle energy techniques), joint mobilization and stretching; electrotherapy; and exercise prescription – this could be a home based programme, or a supervised programme on-site.
Rehabilitation therapy can help with:
- Muscle strains/tears
- Joint/ligament sprains
- Tendinitis
- Overuse injuries
- RSI (repetitive strain injuries)
- Knee pain
- Back pain
- Shin splints
Each Session will involve:
- A thorough assessment of the injury and related biomechanics
- Treatment which may include massage, joint mobilisation and stretching to reduce pain and inflammation, speed the healing process and increase range of movement.
- A remedial exercise prescription to strengthen damaged tissue, correct muscle imbalances, increase stability around joints and improve proprioception (neuromuscular control). This may be to do at home or in the gym.
